Become A Big

By becoming a Big Brother, Big Sister, Big Couple or Big Family you can truly influence the life of a child, and you will both be forever changed by the experience.

If you can be yourself, you can be a Big.

  • Are you at least 18 years old?
  • Do you have a couple extra hours a week, a valid driver's license and an insured vehicle?
  • Can you make an 18-month commitment?
  • Do you enjoy kids and having fun?

INQUIRE NOW!

Through our community program in Bozeman and Big Sky, we serve children ages 5-15.  Their backgrounds and personalities are unique, but they all have a need for friendship with a caring adult.  We ask our volunteers for an 18 month commitment, and to spend 1-2 hours a week with their Little. Big Brothers are matched with Little Brothers and Big Sisters with Little Sisters, or Little Brothers ages 5-8. This is also a great opportunity for Big Couples and Big Families to be matched with a Little Brother. Activities that many matches enjoy are going to the park, walking the dog, going fishing, arts and crafts, making dinner together and many other activities.

Community Program Enrollment Process

-Application (complete the following 2 steps):

Click here to print and fill out the Volunteer Application & the Pre-Interview Questionnaire

-Interview: Once we receive your completed Application and Pre-Interview Questionnaire, our Enrollment Specialist will call to schedule an appointment for an interview.  The interview usually takes about an hour. This is a great opportunity for us to learn more about you and your personality, likes, dislikes and preferences, and decide which child would best suit you.

-Three References: We will contact the three people you provide as references after the interview is complete.

-Auto Insurance & Driver's License: Bring your auto insurance card and driver's license with you to the interview. We will make a copy of your driver's license and auto insurance card for you.

-Background Check: There is a $15.00 fee to cover the cost of your background check (cash or check made out to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Gallatin County).  Please bring with you to the interview.

-Matching Process: Once you have completed the enrollment process, your file will be reviewed. We will then notify you of acceptance/non-acceptance into our program. If you have been accepted, we will contact you once we've identified a potential Little. You are under no obligation to be matched with the child the agency proposes to you. If you accept, we will contact the Little and the Parent to tell them about you. When all parties agree, we will schedule a match meeting between you, the parent, the child and the Match Support Specialist.  At that meeting, boundaries, expectations, rules and goals will be discussed. You will then officially be matched, and you can start meeting with your Little Brother or Sister to enjoy activities together!

School-Based Program Enrollment Process

Our agency facilitates school-based programs in Big Sky and Ennis, MT.  These programs are held within the school and match high school students with elementary students.  If you know a high school student in either of these school districts who is interested in mentoring a younger student OR a younger student who would like to be matched in this program, please contact our staff.

For a few hours, once a week, you can give a Little the invaluable gift of your friendship. By simply changing their perspective of what the world can offer, you can change their life for the better, forever. And sometimes it’s as simple as watching a movie, going to a museum, or just hanging out together.

Other opportunities to get involved:

VOLUNTEER AS A COMMITTEE MEMBER
Committees oversee all of our special events, volunteer programs, public relations and marketing efforts.  Big Brothers Big Sisters of Gallatin County relies heavily on community volunteers to serve on our committees.

SPONSORSHIP OF SPECIAL EVENTS
Local businesses can receive great marketing exposure, and help us to underwrite the costs of our very popular special events as corporate or individual sponsors.

BECOME A DONOR
Funding for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Gallatin County comes from our generous community members.  The services we provide to the children of Gallatin County are made possible through donations generated from individual donors and donations to our special events.

PROVIDE ACTIVITIES FOR OUR MATCHES
We do our best to keep the cost incurred by our volunteers.  Donations of tickets to sporting events, concerts, and community events allow our Bigs and Littles to enjoy these activities together, at no cost to the volunteers.  Additionally, community members can host fun activities and outings for our matches, or donate such things as sports and outdoor equipment.
